Sharing Our Orchids Gallery is available by Honolulu Orchid Society

Sharing Our Orchids Through Photos is a bulletin of the Honolulu Orchid Society that was published in 2020 and 2021. Edited by Melvin Waki and Jan Takamiya, it features photos contributed by members and friends along with notes about the plants and their growers. In all, over a thousand photos were published in 195 issues.

Calvin Abe’s “Tokyo Dome” Orchid Show Highlights by Linda Inouye

Date: November 10, 2021
Time: 7:00 p.m. Hawaii (9:00 p.m. PST)

Do you miss orchid shows? This month travel with Calvin Abe back to 2015, 2016 and 2019 to visit the Japan Grand Prix International Orchid and Flower Shows held in the Tokyo Dome. See spectacular displays and award-winning individual orchids. Peek behind-the-scenes at how the elaborate displays are constructed.

Calvin is an award-winning orchid grower. He taught graphics and photography at Pearl City High School for many years. When he fell ill in 2003, Calvin received several orchids that soon needed his care to survive, so he set out to learn about orchid culture. After retiring in 2005 and having more time to devote to his new hobby, he volunteered at an orchid nursery, where he gained valuable hands-on experience, and was introduced to the subject of tonight's presentation.

November’s meeting will also feature an auction of orchids and other items donated by Honolulu Orchid Society members and friends. Plants and items for local pickup only. HOS welcomes guests from Hawaii orchid clubs and others interested in orchids. Presentation via Zoom video conferencing.

 Honolulu Orchid Society is inviting the general public to join their May Zoom meeting and On-Line Plant Auction!  It will be May 12, 2021 Wednesday at 7 p.m.  Registration required so get that done early!  Plants are donated by the top growers of Hawaii, so it will be very exciting!  Don't miss this great opportunity!!

2021 04 22 Where can we find Orchids & plants for sale in Oahu?

During this Covid time, Orchid shows and plant sales are cancelled.  So bunch of people asked, "Where can we find good quality Orchids and other plants to buy?" 

You can go to home improvement stores, supermarkets, etc., and they do have decent plants.  But the hidden gem is ALOHA STADIUM SWAP MEET!

Try this coming Sunday, April 25th, 2021.  Come early in the morning if you can, as the good plants go fast!  Section 9 ~ 12, rows A & B (close to fence line border to the stadium) will have plenty of plant sellers.
